After years of wearing dresses by Britain s most celebrated labels—Alexander McQueen, Emilia Wickstead, Preen, among others—Kate Middleton is picking up the fever for designer Alessandro Michele s Gucci. The duchess was on hand at the Victoria Albert Museum in London to open the museum’s next Exhibition Road section yesterday in a look by the Italian house.

It was just last year that Michele, a self-confessed Anglophile, held his resort show in Westminster Abbey, where the duchess was married, and the collection was full of tongue-in-cheek royal influences. This latest fashion moment brings that connection full circle—the grosgrain-trimmed cotton-blend tweed dress is arguably one of her most directional turns yet. Classic navy L.K. Bennett pumps and a fire-engine red clutch had throwback vibes and were right in step with Middleton s polished approach to accessorizing.
