What items spring to mind when thinking about Katie Holmes’s fashion sense? A neutral crew-neck sweater in cashmere over a blue button-up shirt, perhaps. Or maybe a good pair of jeans and Adidas Samba trainers. Possibly an oversized wool Toteme coat paired with kitten heels. Whatever the specifics, she typically leans into a minimalist, clean-cut aesthetic. But for her birthday celebrations this week, Holmes opted for something altogether more expressive.
On her 45th birthday, while enjoying a casual night out with friends, the Dawson’s Creek alum adopted a more elaborate approach to an after-dark wardrobe. Holmes wore a black velvet maxi dress with long sleeves adorned with feather accents at the cuffs. Additionally, she threw a lightweight white wool jacket over her shoulders, added a black leather bag, and rounded it all off with a pair of white cowboy boots (she wore a similar pair by Partlow just last week).
Despite her reputation for normcore fashion, the actor certainly knows how to ramp up the glamour when the occasion calls for it. Happy birthday, Katie Holmes!
