Katie Holmes knows a thing or two about pulling off work-life balance in style as an actress and mother who constantly shuttles between the coasts. And this weekend in Manhattan, Holmes brought new life to a familiar summer wardrobe combo--denim shorts and a button-down--with a throwback twist: a pair of 80s-style high-top sneakers.
Holmes’s dark-wash distressed denim cut-offs tonally coordinated with her prim gingham check shirt and dark-lensed sunglasses. Layered bangles provided subtle shine, but it was Holmes’s old-school Reebok trainers (the Hi Fitness classic) that stole the show. The gum-trimmed sole and double velcro ankle closures were a surprise choice that gave the outfit a surprise retro edge, as did the finishing touch: ribbed scrunch socks.
