It’s hardly uncommon to see Gucci’s creative director, Alessandro Michele, in the company of a beguiling, under-the-radar ingénue. The Italian designer is constantly drawn to enigmatic muses who happen to wear his whimsical and romantic clothing with total aplomb. Case in point: Folk singer Kelsey Lu, who met with Michele at Gucci’s Spring 2017 show yesterday in Milan.
The singer, who prefers to go by the name Lu, was buttoned up into a ’70s-inspired red suit from the house’s Pre-Fall 2016 collection, replete with a pussy-bow blouse. While it was her first Gucci appearance, she and Michele looked like old friends together. “It’s been very dreamy,” the singer told Vogue.com via email. “I didn t have too many expectations seeing as this is my first time, but being sat opposite Serena Williams was a warming surprise. We caught each other’s eye, and shared a smile. It made me feel warm and tingly.”
Taking in the show with the G.O.A.T. is certainly an epic way to close out a legendary fashion month experience for Lu who also made an appearance at Molly Goddard’s show in London this past weekend. As you might expect, Lu has already made a mental catalog of pieces she’d love to wear from Gucci and Goddard’s collections. “There are too many things to list,” she said. “Overall, it was jaw-dropping.”
