Lady Gaga rang in her 38th birthday last night at celebrity hotspot Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica. The restaurant’s walkway turned into a makeshift runway for the superstar, who showed off an edgy birthday look.
Gaga wore a floor-dusting black leather trench coat from Retrofête, which she cinched at the waist. And never one to shy away from a statement shoe—or a risky platform—she donned a pair of sky-high lace-up boots.
She added an extra edge with her accessories: a pair of impenetrable sunglasses and chunky silver chains around her neck. Keeping with the leather look, she tucked a large Bottega Veneta intrecciato pouch under her arm.
Last we saw of her, Gaga was in her glam rock era, coinciding with her feature on The Rolling Stones’ latest album, Hackney Diamonds. But since then, she’s pivoted into full Joker mode. Last night, however, Gaga’s outfit looked like it could have walked straight out of The Matrix. Who’s to say if channeling her inner Neo was a coincidence? She shares her birthday weekend with the film’s 25th anniversary, which is taking place on Sunday.
With such cultural icons celebrating anniversaries in such close proximity, maybe Lady Gaga just wanted to maximize the star power.
