It all started with two sisters sharing style tips (as sisters are wont to do). “My sister, Grace [Atwood, a fashion and lifestyle blogger], had actually been wearing Lake pajamas a lot, and I fell in love with them,” explains Brooklyn-based designer and artist Rebecca Atwood, whose original collection of textiles blend traditional techniques and hand-painting and whose decor book, Living With Pattern, came out earlier this year. A few weeks later, she got an email from the brand about collaborating, and it felt like a natural fit so she immediately signed on. “I love to sleep—it’s actually become a family joke . . . I go to bed so early!” Atwood says. Her own brand is all about creating ethically made colors, prints, and home goods that complement the things you already have in your place. “I liked the idea of making something with another brand that I already had a connection to, and that, in this fast-paced world, encourages our customer to slow down, get in bed early, and get a good night’s sleep!”
The prints are decidedly soft and feminine: The blush set is reminiscent of cherry blossom season, with the cascading design representing petals eventually falling to the ground. Meanwhile, the blue color scheme evokes images of that first snow storm of the year—the one that pretty much begs for hibernation and hygge. “The small-scale pattern is so soothing and calm to me,” says Atwood, of this first foray into fashion, which launched earlier today. “It was a collaborative effort, and we looked at a few different designs in my sketchbooks before landing on this one.” Like with all of Lake’s sleepwear, the fabric is unbelievably soft—and most importantly, it washes well. “I love the pop of color on the piping. It’s signature to Lake pajamas, and I think it makes them very happy pieces,” adds Atwood. Happily snuggled up in bed? Sounds like the best way to spend winter.
