Stella McCartney in a leopard-print minidress, Lila Moss in a ’90s slip, Charlotte Tilbury in a ’20s flapper dress: was “Kate Moss” the dress code for Moss’s 50th birthday party in Paris last night? The model seemed to cast herself as ringleader, entering the Ritz in a dramatic circus master’s cape.
It wouldn’t be the first time that Lila has paid homage to her mum’s image. For this year’s Fashion Awards, the model enlisted Nensi Dojaka to create a look that channelled the distinct spirit of Kate’s infamous 1993 Liza Bruce dress. And then, there was the transparent mini she wore to launch the Victoria’s Secret film back in September, and the spaghetti-strap number she wore to preview the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition. As Lila would put it: “I copy her outfits consistently and she goes, ‘I’m so jealous, it’s so cute!’ and I’m just like, ‘It’s all yours!’”
“She’s definitely got my magpie gene, which is great when we’re shopping together at Saint Laurent or Lovers Lane,” Kate wrote in the December issue of this magazine. “And less great when she’s squirreling through my closets for vintage Galliano or Westwood to steal.” That young women dread turning into their mothers is one of culture’s most time-worn clichés. But when she happens to be one of the most successful supers of all time, that might not stir quite the same level of angst.
