Few retail fashion directors have secured a legacy as revered as Linda Fargo. Responsible for shaping the visual identity of Bergdorf Goodman for nearly two decades, her always impeccable sense of personal style easily lends itself to her discerning tastemaking qualities. So it’s no surprise her own themed shop, Linda’s, is getting a major makeover by reopening at the end of March 2023 with more space, a larger assortment of products, and a grander injection of witty personality to boot. It’s the first big revamp of the shop since it originally opened in 2017.
Located on the fourth floor of Bergdorf Goodman, the new Linda’s brings together a collection of favorite designers, trends, and motifs into one impressive space that draws from her own signature aesthetic. Think: a heavy dose of established designers alongside a curated mix of emerging labels, fashion insider favorites (Puppets and Puppets! Christopher John Rogers! Bode! Area!) and other brands that may be especially hard to find in the U.S. expect exclusively produced collectibles and collabs too. “In retail, real estate is everything!,” she tells us. “The new Linda’s shop has grown! More space. More rooms. Better light. More to discover. It’s like a house of fashion now, with actual rooms to move between and inspire desire. It’s eclectic, curated, and surprising, and most of all, I hope it feels inviting, inclusive, and fun.” The new shop is twice the size of the original.
Set up more like a gallery than a traditional retail space, Linda’s takes some of the most exciting products and melds them together in a thematic juxtaposition. “We’re at peak stock with the best and most interesting fashion,” she says. “March and the onset of spring is a perfect time to re-open! Change and transformation are in the air and runway deliveries have arrived.” On the menu to start: dopamine dressing-inspired brights, crafty woven essentials, and all things animal print (a personal favorite of Fargo herself), among many others.
Of course, it wouldn’t be the full Bergdorf’s experience without an infusion of personality-led decor. Take, for instance, a neon fluorescent “Linda’s” sign, vintage folded screens, a luxurious boudoir-style dressing area, plus adornments of letters and invitations from her personal collection. The shop will also offer its own high-end tea service, plus a specialty cocktail crafted by BG Restaurant. Shop a preview of Linda’s curations before the boutique opens, below.
Florals
Florals of all shapes, sizes, and varieties were on Fargo’s mind this season. “Flowers are always on my spring list, but this season’s crop was a virtual hothouse of varieties: oversized, blurred, and dimensionalized,” she says.
Happy Colors
Dopamine dressing is still here, but now it comes with an even bigger injection of maximalism expression. “Color is an upper,” adds Fargo. “Dose yourself in ‘happy pill’ dressing.”
Closet Essentials
Normcore is back, but so too is the idea of everyday staples reinterpreted. “Unexpected takes on closet classics: a trench plus feathers, why not?” says Fargo. “The cargo gets color-blocked, an exaggerated peacoat…you get the idea.”
Statement Black
Stealth wealth-led minimalism and a side of gothic fixation have brought us back to all-black. “The gravitational pull of black always takes us to the ground zero of fashion,” says Fargo.
Wovens
“Going natural is an antidote to our high-tech lives–a bohemian getaway all in a straw bag,” says Fargo, of the new wave of crafty pieces she selected for the store.
Life is a Party
Dressing up for dressing up’s sake hits an all-time high this spring. Which means, wear the crystal-studded shoe-shaped minaudiere proudly. “Party is a state of mind, not a time of day,” she adds.
Animalier
“In my opinion, every closet needs a wild thing; leopard, tiger, zebra or snake,” says Fargo. Load up on all the different species and go to town on mixing and matching them two by two.
Whimsy
At Linda’s, there’s truly no such thing as taking fashion too seriously. “Simply put, fashion should be fun,” she says.
