Jeff Nichols’s new film, Loving, tells the story of real-life couple Mildred Jeter and Richard Loving—played by Ruth Negga and Joel Edgerton—fighting for their right to be married in 1950s and 60s Virginia. In 1967, their case, Loving v. Virginia, went all the way to the Supreme Court (spoiler: they won). And last night, an inspired group of A-listers came out for the New York premiere of the film all in the name of love—and apparently, fashion.
In addition to the cast and crew, guests including Lupita Nyong’o, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Aaron Paul, arrived at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema in downtown New York for the occasion wearing thoughtful takes on red carpet attire. While Negga opted for whisper-thin Rodarte that was woven with designers Laura and Kate Mulleavy’s signature brand of dark romance, Nyong’o opted to keep things colorful and flirty in a Kenzo x H&M crop top and bottom. The lively after-party celebration that followed went well into the night, and proved to be (almost) as everlasting as true love.
