All eyes may be on the Spring 2017 collections, but this fall, something wonderfully wicked is coming this way. To promote his noir-inspired collection of glam-meets-goth-punk hooded coats, oversize skirts, and bow-tied blouses, Marc Jacobs debuted a Hype Williams–directed video today featuring the rock icons who pepper his Fall campaign—many of whom the designer had in mind while creating the collection. For all of the feathers and sequins adorning the looks, it’s the bold, unexpected hair and makeup choices that steal the show, rendering each star nearly unrecognizable.
See Cara Delevingne in sooty eyes and shellacked ’20s-inspired finger waves, a strip of black liner across her top lip, winking at a gender-bending John Waters–esque mustache. Kendall Jenner’s porcelain complexion peeks from beneath a pile of all manner of crimp and curl. Missy Elliott’s sculptural hair and feathered epaulets frame a glittering, decadent purple lip.
You’ll spot St. Vincent’s Annie Clark behind a more-is-more smoky eye, while Susan Sarandon is presented nearly bare-faced and bare-chested, her natural assets enough to anchor the silk striped gown. Anna Cleveland dances to Larry Levan’s mix of Man Friday’s “Love Honey, Love Heartache” wearing dashes of drawn-on eyebrows. It’s worth noting that the only person who really looks like himself is the goth king himself, Marilyn Manson. Here, Jacobs proves in 15 looks that when it comes to fall beauty, all the rules can be rewritten.
