Margot Robbie won’t let us take a breath on this big, bold, beautiful press tour run for her latest movie…Big Bold Beautiful Journey. From a jaw-dropping bejewelled take on naked dressing via Armani and fall-ready, ’70s-esque denim silhouettes, to archival gems via Mugler, and deep dives into Phoebe Philo’s Celine, Robbie and her stylist Andrew Mukamal look like they’re having a ton of fun. Ever ravenous for serving a look—and with the New York Fashion Week celebrity circuit to compete with too—Robbie opted for not just one, but two twists on the classic co-ord.
Photographed yesterday (September 16) while out and about in New York City, Robbie wore a strapless, earthy brown reptile-effect corset top with a matching suede midi skirt with a coordinating thick waist band by fellow Aussie, designer Christopher Esber. She styled it with square tortoiseshell sunglasses and and some barely-there brown sandals by Khaite with delicate criss-cross straps.
Christopher Esber is a homegrown brand Robbie has reached for on a number of occasions; she rewore a sheer silk charcoal maxi dress on a recent trip to Ibiza, and a blue-gray draped strapless top and drop waist skirt by Esber on the press tour for her movie Babylon.
On the same day, the actor stepped out in her own spin on the forever fall-favorite suiting, wearing a tucked tailored gray jacket with exposed hips by Phoebe Philo, almost coordinating gray suit pants, a black Phoebe Philo Drive Bag, and rectangular black sunglasses and black leather and silver-studded mules also by Philo. A teeny black bra peeked out beneath the blazer. The more sensual and elevated take on officewear pieces has become a trend in itself; Hailey Bieber being its key proponent with her own selection of Philo, Tom Ford-era Saint Laurent blazers, and Calvin Klein skirt suits. Robbie’s formula for the matchy-matchy is meticulous, without looking overdone or too long thought over.
The Margot Robbie press tour wardrobe has certainly levelled up from her Barbie-era commitment to method-dressing. While Barbiecore was all whimsy and joyful, instead, Robbie gets a little bit more serious, pulling from her favorite modern designers and diving deep into the archives for looks that speak to her love of form-fitting silhouettes and texture. One things for sure, while the co-ord might look easy, there’s a lot of thought happening on this big, beautiful promo wardrobe journey.
