The co-hosts of this year’s Met Gala are no strangers to jewelry. All four are multi-hyphenates who champion the category. They wear it with pride, bend rules, and sometimes design pieces and collections themselves. History tells us that men have long embraced jewelry, and this year’s exhibition Superfine: Tailoring Black Style shows the role these pieces played in the definition, development, and exuberance of dandyism.

Pharrell Williams has long been regarded a visionary for his creative endeavors spanning across music and fashion. Serving as men’s Creative Director at Louis Vuitton since 2023, it’s no surprise that when it comes to jewelry style, the multidisciplinarian doesn’t shy away from making a statement. His artfully layered jewels tend to follow a pattern, and we’ve broken down the formula.
First up in the equation: the base layer. These are the not-so-basic basics that go on first. Start with a chain necklace with an interesting link. Next up is the statement. These are the attention-grabbing pieces that get layered over the base—pearls, multicolored gems, beads, etc. Step three brings in rings and earrings, like a pair of yellow stone studs to match a signet ring. The Scuderia Ferrari driver’s bold, colorful, and whimsical looks have garnered much attention in the style world and earned him the title of ‘champion of style’ as well. Lewis’s approach in this area was quite groundbreaking, as it broke free from traditional F1 dress codes and ushered in a new era for racers’ personal styles to flourish. There are few men who wear jewelry as well as A$AP Rocky. He s an undisputed style icon, and no stranger to a blinged out, bejeweled look. Pearls, gems, diamonds – he truly wears it all, and wears it oh-so-well. So much so, that we re a bit convinced Rocky has never met a jewel he didn t like.
