“Obviously, I love glamorous things. I love indulgence. But I’m also pretty practical,” said Michael Kors at his Soho flagship last night. He was talking about the origins of his new Access smartwatch, a customizable, personalizable timepiece that he introduced with the help of Zendaya, Martha Hunt, Soo Joo Park, and more.
The bash featured plenty of champagne and mini mac-and-cheese canapés. “Whatever we design, I’m always thinking about how functional it will be—and I never want to give up the idea of glamour,” reflected Kors as Hanneli Mustaparta and Suzy Menkes made their way through the store. “I think when we first saw smartwatches, I, of course, loved the functionality of them, but they never, number one, had any glamour to them, and also you didn’t have this opportunity to put your own personal spin on them. So if we were able to combine all of that together, and let people customize things, make them personal when they wear it depending on their mood—it’s for anyone who is busy but wants to look glamorous.”
