After Moschino’s Spring parade of paper dolls, you might think Jeremy Scott’s homage to paper would have ended. Not so. Today at Milan Fashion Week, Scott lined the Moschino Fall 2017 runway with cardboard and sent out Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid in cardboard box–inspired outfits. The packing material was just the start of the unexpected inspirations this season. After the cardboard couture came duct tape gowns, dry cleaner bag column dresses, a trash bag cocktail frock, and an evening bag made to look like a roll of toilet paper. Call it haute upcycling. Here, we recap all the highs from Scott’s subversive Moschino collection. Check Vogue Runway later for Nicole Phelps’s full review.

Moschino’s Supermodel MusesYou know a runway casting is going to be major when it starts with Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, and Stella Maxwell as Moschino’s did today. After the It Insta girls came some of Scott’s longtime favorites like Anna Cleveland, Elsa Hosk, Molly Bair, Jasmine Sanders, Imaan Hammam, and Romee Strijd.

Moving Day Must-Have LooksFragile and This Side Up read some of the prints on Scott’s cardboard-inspired pieces. Some were subtler nods to the theme than others, like Grace Elizabeth’s prim ’50s-silhouette dress, whereas Hosk’s paper bag top came complete with a handle.

Surreal Airbrushed Prints Flesh Out the CollectionTo even out the all-beige cardboard looks, Scott dreamed up a range of streetwear-inspired pieces in collaged prints. The patterns were put together in odd arrangements, with arms, bustiers, and legs printed just slightly off from models’ actual anatomy, giving each girl somewhat eerie proportions.

Couture Even a Garbage Man Could LoveOld gloves, duct tape, shower curtains, plastic bags, tissues, bubble wrap, and garbage bags inspired Scott’s finale gowns. Will they turn up on red carpets? Maybe not, but they surely made jaded fashion types smile tonight.

Serious ’TudeThe message of the collection was wrapped up nicely in the T-shirt the designer wore to take his bow, which succinctly read Couture is an attitude.
