The future of fashion isn’t matching sweatshirts and pants. Judging by the many well-tailored women at Milan Fashion Week, it’s safe to say that real suiting (made of wool or twill rather than fleece) has made a well-deserved return. Milanese showgoers have reemerged from quarantine, and dusted off their blazers and suit trousers for a few days of in-person presentations and socially-distanced shows, embracing tailoring in full form. Be it a full set, tailored separates, or solo suit jackets, these polished but not overly complicated pieces are giving our overworn hoodies a run for their money. There were even short suits, three-piece suits, and blazers worn as dresses. And you didn’t have to look far to spot relaxed tailoring paired with flat footwear, easy suit jackets layered over simple white T-shirts, as well as oversized blazers atop swishy skirts. During these few days of Milan Fashion Week there wasn’t a sweatsuit to be found.

School-Boy Separates
Loose wool trousers, tassel loafers, a white tee, and a checked blazer create an easy and chic uniform to wear on repeat this fall.
The Fine Print
Accompany a statement-making blazer with a foundation of wardrobe staples, like a pair of straight-leg jeans and a white collared shirt. And don’t forget your mask.
Head-to-Toe Tailoring
There are few things more comfortable than a sweatsuit, but this straight-lined, soft, twill suit and flat boot combination is a close second. A hands-free bag doesn’t hurt, either.
Easy Street
The essential, minimalist suiting look returns this Milan Fashion Week street style circuit, this time in a navy suit, off-white turtleneck, white kicks, and one of the most favored accessories among street style stars: the soft leather pouch.
The Boxy Blazer
Sure, an oversized hoodie is cozy, but have you ever considered an oversized blazer? Add some tailoring over an otherwise casual look—like this one that involves lace-up kicks and a baseball cap—for a styling hack sure to add a touch of effortlessness to any look.
