For many, Paris is the pinnacle of fashion month. Fashion is in Paris’ DNA, and when you combine that history with the worldwide reach of the designers presenting in the City of Lights with the Paris Fashion Week street style scene, it makes sense that this specific leg of Fashion Week turns the entire city into a catwalk. French designer Sonia Rykiel once summed up Paris’ role in the fashion industry by saying, “You can create fashion everywhere in the world, but the place where you are crowned is Paris.”
Throughout the week, show-goers were seen wearing tailored jackets, oversized blazers, pleated trousers, and more suit separates. Here are our favorite looks from the week.
Borrowed from the Boys Blazer
Borrow your look from the boys. Denim isn’t the only oversized trend right now—loose-fitting, long jackets are also having a moment. Get the look with Dries’ tan, twill blazer, and Citizens of Humanity’s horseshoe jean.
Classic Brown
Going all-out in a head-to-toe chocolate look is also a trend to note. Tibi’s brown suit fits the bill, and a pair of pointed-toe wedge heels from COS give this look a hint of edge. Top it off with The Row’s tan Sienna clutch.
Tuxedo Jacket
Take it to the next level with a Tuxedo. Khaite’s black Malek double-breasted blazer is a timeless take on this trend. Wear it with a pair of High Sport’s signature kick-flare pants, Stella McCartney’s blue oxford shirt, and a pair of Repetto Mary Jane flats. There you have it—a look that will never get old.
Double Breasted
Take a neutral stance with a double-breasted blazer and white pants (yes, even after Labor Day). Acne’s herringbone jacquard blazer is the right approach, especially when paired with Nili Lotan’s Flavie pants.
Perfect Pleats
Perfect pleats are another it-factor for fall. The Frankie Shop’s Gelso pleated trousers are just one example of a perfectly-pleated pant. Wear them with a black crewneck sweater, like this one from Allude, Demellier’s Cannes clutch, and A.P.C.’s black leather belt.
Exquisitely Oversized
Wear an all-charcoal suit with an oversized fit, such as this one of Halfboy. To give this look day-to-night appeal, top it off with Balanciaga’s classic black leather tote and a pair of black heeled mules.
Cult Coats
Cult coats also made a return in Paris. The black, floor-sweeping look is a timeless way to transition into the colder season. Beare Park’s black wool coat gets the job done. Wear it with Reformation’s Tonya top, layered over Proenza’s white satin, collared shirt.
Leather Weather!
Leather weather is upon us. Give the classic autumn trend a twist with a colored leather, such as this skirt suit by Norma Komali. The full green look goes well with Everlane’s Supima tank and Zara’s leather slides.
Shirting, Blazers, and Loafers
When the weather is still in flux, a good shirt goes a long way. Brandon Maxwell’s button-down shirt is a solid pick. To create a short suit, wear it with The Row’s Gunther cotton shorts, a COS blazer, and a pair of black leather loafers from J.Crew.
Pinstriped Sets
Here’s another all-gray look, but make it pinstriped. A pinstriped set, such as this one from Mango, is an easy way to give the everyday suit a hint of snazz. Hereu’s black ballet flats are a perfect match for this look.
Skirt Suiting
Last but certainly not least is the art of the skirt suit. A feminine take on the classic workwear ensemble, the skirt suit is officially in. This chocolate wool skirt from Patou is a close match, especially when worn with J. Crew’s chocolate Willa blazer. Give the look an extra layer with a suit vest, such as this one from Matteau, and complete the outfit with By Far’s Ginny Mary Janes.
