While Burberry s Spring 2018 runway boasted a bevy of above-neck notes—plaid-printed caps, light-catching statement earrings, come-as-you-are complexions (courtesy of genetics and makeup artist Wendy Rowe), and off-kilter parts among them—the show s aesthetic power play came in the form of an understated tie-back.

Though a variety of mane textures served to offset the brand s trademark outerwear—bobs, pixies, afros—hairstylist Sam McKnight ensured that hair which fell past shoulder-level was secured at the nape of the neck in a no-nonsense ponytail primed for blustery days. The innate polish of the low-slung style took on even more powerful guise when lengths skewed longer, one baby blonde iteration swinging between shoulder blades and hitting right above the tailbone from beneath a checkered cap, the from-behind view offering insouciant competition to the revved-up accessory game in front.

The quietly glamorous moment allied with a secure statement earring to rival the show s major tomboy vibes, proving that in today s landscape, looks are fluid and beautiful nonetheless. But the true lesson the minimalist manes proved? No matter how changeable your beauty, some styles are forever.
