Not many superstars can say they have a national day in their honor. Now, Rihanna can, having accepted the title of “national hero” in her native Barbados on a historic day for the country, as it officially became a republic and Queen Elizabeth II was removed as head of state.

For a midnight ceremony on November 30 that simultaneously swore in the first-ever Barbadian president, Dame Sandra Mason, in Bridgetown, Barbados, and acknowledged Rihanna as a national hero—a step up from the ambassador role bestowed on her in 2018—the Fenty mogul arrived in a Bottega Veneta dress. The “Diamond” singer poured herself into a burnt orange resort 2022 tassel halter neck gown with brown stiletto heels, and kept her make-up minimal allowing her braids to take centre stage.

After embracing the newly sworn-in president, the acclaimed Barbados-born star accepted the historic honor as the televised ceremony took place and guests in attendance celebrated the star’s latest accolade.

Prince Charles made a speech acknowledging the termination of the British monarchy’s long-standing reign, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Caribbean island as a republic.
