Before Kanye West started Yeezy and his popular line of Saint Pablo merch, before A$AP Rocky designed his collections for Guess, and even before Sean "Diddy" Combs founded Sean John, Wu-Tang Clan was one of the first in hip-hop to venture into their own fashion business. Though the peak of Wu Wear might seem like decades ago (it s been 12 years, to be exact, since it was first launched), we can rely on Rihanna to get her 90s references straight, as she turned the group s tribute merch into a fashion statement last night.
The star showed off an ensemble that included a black men s long-sleeve featuring the signature Wu Wear logo--one so iconic that it spawned many bootleg versions after the original line discontinued in 2008. The fakes that some of its members came across everywhere--from bodega s to eBay--drove them to reintroduce the brand in August. As for Rihanna, she paired her Wu Wear with loose-fitting dark denim that emphasized the 90s hip-hop feel of her look. Her white oversized sunglasses and matching pointy-toe shoes added extra attitude--not that that s something the bad gal, or Wu Tang, has ever lacked.
