This month, Los Angeles–based design label Rule of Three introduces its newest collection of handmade, marbled home decor items and it s thinking big. The relatively new brand began in 2013 with small pieces like pillows and napkins, all hand-produced using a laborious seven-step process in designer Paige Cleveland’s studio. “I have been wanting to work big for a while. It has always been the goal to create larger-scale items,” explains Cleveland. “This past spring I moved into a studio three times the size of my old one, and my best friend and I fabricated an entire system allowing me to run production on 3-yard panels. It’s an amazing setup, and it immediately changed my process. Now I am able to really design some exciting products.”
The expanded range of products now includes larger-scale pieces like drapery, framed artwork, lampshades, bedding, and poufs. Cleveland, who begins her product development each season with a chosen color palette and gathers inspiration from nature (the newest introductions have names like Starry Night, Abalone, and Canna Lily), has been test-driving the new collection in her own home. “I just hung one of the drapes on the door in my dining room that opens up to a deck. It transformed the whole space,” says Cleveland. “The design and color change throughout the day with the sun. It gives some serious mood to the room, which I love.”
