Sabrina Carpenter isn’t afraid to take a risk. But what’s a girl to do with less than 48 hours left until fashion’s biggest night of the year, the 2025 Met Gala? Put on her sparkliest, most precariously put-together dress, and hold her nerve.
The singer, past Vogue cover star, and Versace’s summer muse was photographed last night (May 3) attending the Moda Operandi pre-Met Gala cocktail party at The Twenty Two Hotel in New York. She wore a clingy, seafoam blue sparkly dress with an extra-high slit, fastened together by a gold safety pin—of course by Versace. The scoop neckline and shoulders also featured some delicate gold hardware to keep things, relatively, safe. She accessorized with a matching blue mini bag from Versace’s La Vacanza collection, and stacked nude Christian Louboutin platform heels.
Her makeup and hair stuck to the usual Sabrina Carpenter style codes: A big and bouncy blonde blowout, with lashings of black mascara, and rosy pink blush. Her nails were manicured with an opalescent color.
Joining Carpenter at the affair was Donatella Versace herself—in a contrasting bright pink suit—and Anne Hathaway—also in a suit, but opting for an all-black, tailored look. As well, Ariana DeBose, Laura Harrier, Eva Chen, and Dylan Mulvaney.
On the same evening, Carpenter made a surprise appearance at Saturday Night Live, joining host Quinta Brunson while she delivered her opening monologue.
Brunson, who was hosting for a second time, began to sing about being short. “Being short is amazing, being short is just fine. I’m a cheap date cause I get wasted off of one glass of wine.” She referenced some other famous “shorties,” including Simone Biles, Kendrick Lamar, and Tom Holland, before the surprise cameo: “Sabrina, what are you doing here?”
Carpenter replied: “I mean, you were talking about being short, so I thought I’d stop by,” before joining in the musical number. Carpenter, who was the musical guest on SNL back in May, again wore Versace: A pink short-sleeve buttoned up crop top with black piping and buttons, paired with a black mini-skirt and gold chain belt.
For her cocktail affair, the dress’s particular tone of turquoise is a sure-fire win for the singer, who wore a custom Dolce Gabbana dress in a similar shade for her Steven Meisel shot Vogue cover.
But is her choice of such a bombshell Versace number just days before the Met Gala a sign of what’s to come on the steps of the Met? Only Sabrina Carpenter and Donatella herself could divulge that.
