Solange Knowles is known to make a splash on any scene with her trademark take on politically-changed pop and collective of brushed-up kinks and statement brows, but today found the artist infusing Maryam Nassir Zadeh s Spring 2018 runway with her ethereal voice as well as a revamped above-neck aesthetic.
Rather than dressing up her onyx curls with pops of pigment at eye-level, the performer opted to switch her signatures in favor of a mane of woven peroxide. Cat-eye shades added a dose of drama to an otherwise clean complexion, while braids of mixed breadths snaked artfully across her scalp before extending to interminable plaits, each bedecked in strategically-placed strings and shells.
The blanched change-up called to mind Kim Kardashian West s silvered down-to-there transformation, though rather than sleek and tonally cool, Knowles s bevy of braids skewed toward the funky side of the spectrum, its sunny sensibilities offering a languid transition into the autumn months. And while the moment may have taken its cues from the beach, we can t wait to see how it couples with the season s chunky knits and structured coats.
