Denim aficionados, listen up! On July 31, Los Angeles-based fashion brand Staud is expanding its core collection to include denim, aptly named, Staud Jeans. After a handful of buzzy collaborations with Wrangler, the long-anticipated category is ready to be revealed. The denim focuses on five, core jean silhouettes that every closet needs, plus, one perfect jacket—and Vogue readers get the exclusive first look (and shopping rights!) twenty four hours ahead of the global launch.
“Denim has always embodied the things we care most about as a brand—it’s timeless, versatile, and effortless—so, creating denim felt like a natural extension of our DNA,” says Sarah Staudinger, founder and creative director at Staud. “We approached it the same way we approach everything: with a sense of purpose and a little bit of our character.”
Inspired by a pair of Levi’s jeans from the 1970s that were borrowed from her mother’s closet nearly 20 years ago, Staudinger was mesmerized by the ability of denim to transcend decades, and how it can act as modern day heirlooms. Setting out to create pieces that do the same within her own line, Staud Jeans is a versatile mix of silhouettes and washes that are “meant to last, carry meaning, and live many lives.” Priced between $245 and $345, you can find everything from a five-pocket straight-leg jean to a barrel curve, slouchy wide-leg, and a classic jacket.
“Each style was designed to feel like a piece of art—something you collect, hold onto, and keep coming back to,” she tells Vogue. “Our denim isn’t just about fit, it’s about feeling, and the idea was simple: give her the pieces to build her own permanent collection—and to me, that’s the best kind of investment.”
True to the fundamental feeling of the collection, each of these items are quickly becoming lasting fixtures in Staudinger’s own wardrobe. “That’s the beauty of denim—it works with everything, in every context,” she says. Currently, her favorites include the slouchy, ’90s-inspired Gus in indigo, which she’s been wearing with flip-flops and virtually every top she owns, along with the Teddy in vintage rigid, to pair with classic white T-shirts. The low-rise, Kyle flare is her pick for a night out, styled with a flowy top and kitten heels, while the barrel-leg Jackson is her go-to for something with a little dramatic edge—which she notes is also ultra-flattering in every wash.
