Stella McCartney showed her Fall 2016 collection in the Opéra Garnier today. McCartney sent out puffa coats, oversize dresses, lots of denim, and quirky swan-print blouses for the animal lovers out there. Here, eight notable happenings from the show, while you wait for Nicole Phelps’s full review.
1. As always, Sir Paul McCartney sat front row at his daughter’s show.
2. Damaris Goddrie opened the show in a copper velvet puffer cape—three trends in one—and pleated culottes.
3. Puffers continued to be a central theme, arriving in belted, cropped, and giant shapes.
4. Stella McCartney might not use animal skins or furs in her collections, but she will use them as a print. This season, swimming swans came patterned on wide-leg gray trousers and delicate pleated skirts.
5. Denim lovers, good news: McCartney’s lace-up, tie-dyed dress is a real day-to-night winner.
6. McCartney continued her explorations in long-over-long silhouettes, showing slip dresses over culottes and tunic sweaters over skirts.
7. The designer used thick jersey to drape voluminous dresses, which had the ease of a sweatshirt.
8. Models’ hair was parted deep on the left and swept into a messy chignon—all the better to show off the single earrings many wore on the runway.
9. The event’s invite featured a light-up ticker tape with the message “See you at the show” alongside each guest’s name.
