Red Carpet: How Claire Danes, Kerry Washington, and Taraji P. Henson Owned the Emmy Awards

The celebrity reporters made us feel the heat in Los Angeles on the red carpet: From prompting every seasoned A-lister for a weather-related anecdote to dishing out tips for navigating extreme climes to first-timers, it was clear that being in a full-length dress or black tie look in extreme conditions isn t exactly child s play.

Still, it didn t stop these three women from standing out head and shoulders above the pack in dresses with futuristic, heavy-metal influences. Taraji P. Henson’s custom Alexander Wang dress reinvented the concept of boudoir dressing with chain-link straps: the sheer skirt cascaded from the sculptural bodice which was a powerful alternative to the traditional slip dress. Taking this idea a step further, was actress Claire Danes in a striped, sequined Prada dress, also featuring a curb link strap and at the bust.

But the true star of the night was Kerry Washington, in a straight-off-the-runway Marc Jacobs look. The chain-mail dress was militaristic with embellished epaulettes, and had a touch of latin flair about it, with its slit and scalloped edge. What s more, these ladies didn t race to the finish of the carpet either: Washington took the time to do interviews and a few selfies along the way, to boot.
