At first glance, the gloved, ornately patterned underpinnings at today’s Dries Van Noten outing looked as though they might have been the product of hours under the needle. While no pain was necessitated to tap into the designer’s opulent vision, it’s not the first time that trompe l’oeil tattoos have showed up on the biggest runways, fashion being an industry that’s long loved a fling with subculture.
