When Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement earlier this summer, she instantly sparked a slew of wedding-related trends. Her proposal dress—a black-and-white striped Ralph Lauren number—flew off the shelves, and her engagement ring’s old mine diamond generated record-breaking searches for the unusual cut.
When it came to designing Swift’s ring, Kelce tapped 30-year-old jeweler Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry. (Swift had shown him Lubeck’s work over a year and a half before their engagement.) Swift’s bespoke ring featured a cushion-cut old mine diamond rounded at the corners, and bezel set in a hand-engraved gold band. While this one-of-a-kind ring ensures that nobody will have the exact same design, now, you can get pretty darn close.
Get your paddles ready, because Sotheby’s teamed up with Lubeck to auction off a ring that looks remarkably similar to Swift’s: a 5.14 carat cushion brilliant diamond ring bezel, size 6 ½, set in an engraved platinum band. While there are obvious differences, these two rings are undeniably sisters. The ring (along with another one of Lubeck’s creations, a fancy orange-pink east-west ring set in an engraved platinum band), will head to auction on December 9 at 10 a.m. Eastern.
The diamond’s D color and Internally Flawless clarity already sets it up for success on the auction block—but Lubeck’s telltale engraving ensures that the ring will fetch a pretty penny. With a starting bid of $140,000, Sotheby’s estimates that it will go for somewhere between $200,000-$300,000. Though, knowing just how passionate Taylor Swift’s fanbase is, we wouldn’t be surprised if it went for even more.
