Throughout his whirlwind press tour for A Complete Unknown, Best Actor nominee Timothée Chalamet has brought fun and irreverence to the red carpet in spades. (Remember when he rode a bike into a screening?). So, you didn’t think the star was going to play it safe at the 2025 Oscars tonight, did you? Instead of taking the traditional tuxedo or demure suit route that so many Hollywood gents favor, Chalamet stood out from the pack—thanks to a sprightly suit in butter yellow leather, courtesy of custom Givenchy.
The colorful double-breasted ensemble, complete with the monochromatic matching silk shirt with a bejeweled closure at the neck, felt modern and fresh—especially with details like a forgone belt, and sleek loafers. The look marks the beginning of designer Sarah Burton’s new era at the French fashion house. Burton also dressed Chalamet’s A Complete Unknown co-star Elle Fanning, providing a united fashion front.
Sure, tailoring the color of a perfectly-ripe banana may not be everyone’s idea of formal attire—but one has to admire Chalamet’s willingness to take a risk and deliver something different. Plus, butter yellow was a huge runway and red carpet trend in revent seasons. He clearly has his finger on the fashion pulse. And his eccentric suiting will be remembered for years to come.
