When it comes to putting on a show, few do it better than Donatella Versace. The brand’s Spring 2017 collection was shown with a host of bombastic supermodels, and opened on a high note with Edie Campbell and continued with an all-star casting. Check out the five reasons why Versace’s Spring show was a standout.
The Supermodels
Nothing beats having Naomi Campbell step onto the runway, and while the supermodel didn’t start the show, her presence raised the bar for all who followed. Fellow supers Adriana Lima, Doutzen Kroes, and Irina Shayk provided equally appealing moments, as did the re-emergence of Carmen Kass, who sported blunt-cut bangs with heaps of attitude.
The Social Stars
It goes without saying that Gigi Hadid would be part of Versace’s hashtag-heavy show promotion, and having her close the show gave the collection its social moment. Not to be outdone, Bella Hadid continued her stellar Milan season with an appearance, while Victoria’s Secret Angels Taylor Hill and Stella Maxwell added to the cast’s sexiness.
The Newbies
Versace tends toward established stars, so for a newer model to make the cut they have to be memorable. This season the first-timers included It girls such as Richie Beras who first appeared at Versus Versace, Ellen Rosa, a striking Brazilian; Giulia Maenza, an Italian beauty, made her debut; and Anique Jozsi, the stunning opener of Alexander Wang’s Spring show, was present as well.
The Comebacks
Several of model stars of the early ’00s showed up to give the newcomers a run for their money. Sports Illustrated regular Anne Vyalitsyna made her first appearance at Versace after 15 years in the industry, while Bette Franke, who has been on a runway sabbatical since 2014, returned looking stunning. Caroline Trentini, who has been away from the show circuit since the birth of her second child earlier this year, was in attendance, too.
The Walks
If there’s one takeaway from Versace’s lineup of confident, powerful women, it’s that you have to walk the walk. With Mariacarla Boscono, Naomi Campbell, Imaan Hammam, and Iselin Steiro all on the runway today, the show offered a master class in self-assured swagger.
