In February, fashion designer and mother of four Victoria Beckham traveled to South Africa to show her support for Born Free, a philanthropic organization making extraordinary strides to reduce mother-to-child HIV transmission. Although she went in the spirit of giving, it turns out that there was more to receive than she had imagined. Here, she shares her personal photographs from one remarkable, life-changing trip.

My first meeting of my first day was at the mothers2mothers Delft Community Health center in Cape Town. This amazing clinic and its volunteers (known as “mentor mothers”) supports mothers living with HIV and educates them about the medical opportunities available to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV. The “mentor mothers” are women from the community who understand the challenges the mothers face; they provide a much-needed support network for the pregnant women. Here I am with the group, including the vivacious Denise, who was nine months pregnant and gave birth to a wonderful baby boy named Siyamthanda a couple of weeks later.
