No skin-care routine is ever straightforward—not even an editor’s. Skin is constantly evolving with age, weather, and mood, which means the “perfect” regimen is always being tweaked.
A Look at Vogue Editors’ Favorite Skin-Care Products

At Vogue, we’re always waxing poetic about our cult favorites and the latest launches—but what do our own beauty editors actually have in their skin-care routines? A peek inside the top shelves of American Vogue’s small but mighty team—spanning different ages, skin types, and concerns—reveals just that. Even with an overflow of serums, moisturizers, and masks at their fingertips, they’ve managed to edit down what really works for them (for now, at least). And yes, despite access to the best of the best, they deal with the same concerns as everyone else—acne, sensitivity, eczema, hyperpigmentation, and more.
Read on for the details, and shop Vogue beauty editor-approved skin-care staples, along with the insights that might just inspire your own routine.
For Oily Complexions
Skin Type: “My complexion is oily (excess oil in a good way! I don’t ever want to mattify) and prone to pigmentation.”—Arden Fanning Andrews, beauty editor at large
When Vogue’s Arden Fanning Andrews sweeps into the office, she’s rarely empty-handed—her arms are full of a new beauty loot, with stories to match. Ask her what she’s testing, and she’ll spill in her signature whispery-yet-warm voice her latest discoveries and obsessions. Her mornings, though, are surprisingly low-key. “I never wash my face in the morning because French pharmacist Natacha Bonjout taught me that it’s not needed if you went to sleep with clean skin,” she says. Instead, she spritzes on a toning mist (Yon-Ka Paris or Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir are in rotation) before skipping over a moisturizer and going straight to a hydrating mineral sunscreen. Her current pick: Spooge Dew Me.
Next up? A quick complexion boost, courtesy of Victoria Beckham Beauty’s latest skin-care-makeup hybrid, the newly launched foundation drops, supercharged with Augustinus Bader’s TFC8 complex. She’s rarely seen without WTHN ear seeds. “I always wear them—they make me feel great, and now I’m realizing that since they boost lymphatic drainage, they’re helping me look cute too.” And while supplements aren’t exactly her favorite ritual, she’s committed: “I’m currently trying out Apothékary’s The Honest Youth Tincture and Sakara Beauty Biome,” she adds. Consider it her backstage pass to a fresh start each day.
The moment Fanning Andrews gets home, she starts her wind-down. “As soon as I walk in the door and know I don’t have to leave again, I take the day off with my night bath. I double cleanse with Eve Lom’s cleansing oil, followed by Dior’s foaming cleanser.” Post-bath, she opts for total body hydration with Aesop’s body balm. For face, she starts off with her favorite fragrance-free, plumping eye cream from Deinde, and uses a hydrating face oil. Then, of course, there’s nightly hair care (because, hey, the scalp is skin too). “Derms have told me my scalp and hair health is indeed an extension of my face and skin care, so I like Omi’s hair growth gummies—and they actually taste good too,” she says. “Then, if I’m not mouth-taping, I’ll use Tatcha’s lip mask to wake up with baby-soft lips.”
For Dry Skin
Skin Type: “Mid-30s dry. The combination of already having dry skin—then being on a migraine medication that naturally dries you out—is rough.”—Margaux Anbouba, senior beauty and wellness editor
Vogue’s senior beauty and wellness editor, Margaux Anbouba, is as sharp-witted as she is wellness-obsessed. Her desk is stacked with minis, and her routines are always intentional. A true hydration devotee, she takes a 360-degree approach to combatting dry skin. “I take fish oil and vitamins D and E every day, because studies show that they can help with hydration of the entire body,” she says. Recently, a Dior New York spa esthetician told her to swap out her morning cleanser (turns out, too many stripping ingredients were only making her dryness worse). Now, she reaches for a pea-size amount of Summer Fridays’s amino-acid-rich cleanser (though she still rotates in Dieux’s Baptism and Dior’s mousse as well). Next comes her holy trinity: Iris&Romeo’s hydrating mist, Medik8’s peptide serum, and Chanel’s camellia-extract-rich face cream.
Though she usually skips gadgets, one tool has won her over. “Jenna Ortega’s makeup artist Mélanie Inglessis convinced me to try the Laduora face wand, so I’m doing it as a pre-sunscreen step every day on set,” Anbouba says. The device combines red LED, microcurrent, and gentle vibration to give skin a subtle snatch: “It makes me feel a little more perky.” For the final flourish, she opts for SPF that doubles as a skin-perfecter, slathering on Supergoop’s Glowscreen for what she calls “an Edward Cullen sparkle.”
“I have a much more dramatic cleansing routine for the evening,” muses Anbouba. It starts with Tatcha’s camellia oil cleanser: “I’ve never found one I feel more passionate about—it’s slippery and always melts away when I use water to get it off.” Next, she finishes her double cleanse with the same face wash she uses in the morning.
For an added complexion boost, she turns to an LED face mask. “I’ve recently started trying the Solawave wrinkles mask. It’s only three minutes, which is basically as long as I am willing to wear a red-light mask,” Anbouba adds. In the case of a rogue pimple, she reaches for Bubble Skincare’s salicylic acid blemish treatment. Finally, she slathers on more peptide serum. But she has a genius lip balm hack to keep her pout plump—“I apply Chanel’s hydrating hyaluronic acid serum to my lips, and seal it in with a lot of lip balm,” she says, noting that she uses the lip serum from Lines Beauty as a sleep mask for her pout.
For Combination Skin
Skin Type: “My skin is combination—very oily and shine-prone in summer, but often dry and dehydrated in winter. My routine is centered around brightening, evening, and preventing hyperpigmentation.” —Kiana Murden, senior beauty shopping writer
Vogue’s Kiana Murden has simplified her skin-care routine too many times to count—weaving products and steps in and out as the seasons change. “I’m not really a creature of habit,” she says. “Like most things in my life, I prefer to take an intuitive approach. Some days, more really is more. Other days, I want to treat my skin and move on with my life.” Mornings for her do, however, always start with micellar’s water—Chanel’s proved to be pleasantly stellar. “I’m nearly done with my bottle,” she says. “I have a singular drop left that I’m saving for a special occasion.” Next is something for brightening; she’s been hooked on the new Augustinus Bader vitamin C serum, followed by a milky toner, which she calls a “nonnegotiable” step. “These hydrate like no other. I can’t stop talking about how they’ve changed my skin, but no one seems to be listening to me!” She locks in this moisture with an equally weightless face cream, a nourishing SPF, and something that emits radiance. “Glow Recipe’s bronzing drops are incredible for no-makeup days because they treat, illuminate, and even tone without any fuss. I rarely leave home without applying it.”
“My bedtime routine is both the best and worst part of my day, depending on how tired I am,” Murden says. “But no matter what, I make sure to remove all the gunk, grime, and makeup from my face.” An oil cleanser, likely Sulwhasoo’s, is always first, followed by a gel or foam cleanser. “Merit’s new formula is shockingly good,” she continues. “It lathers from a light foam to a milky serum that sweeps away impurities and leaves my skin baby soft.” Once skin is clean, a toner or essence is up. “Sometimes I’ll sweep the Elemis exfoliating pads across my face to treat enlarged pores and dark spots; others I go for La Mer’s Treatment Lotion.” It’s packed with the brand’s sea-kelp-enriched Miracle Broth, ferments, and hydrogel for firmer, smoother skin. “I do a form of skin cycling, so some days I reach for a hydrating serum, or I’ll do retinol. U Beauty’s Resurfacing Compound is just the ticket for the latter—packed with AHAs and retinol for that glass-skin effect.” Eye cream is also essential, and at night, Murden reaches for Augustinus Bader’s ultra-rich formula. A nourishing moisturizer is her last step. The Overnight Collagen Seal from Savannah James’s Reframe is her current go-to. “If you want to ensure you wake up with glowing, bouncy skin, this one’s for you.”
For Acne-Prone Skin
Skin Type: “Forever young, my complexion is acne-prone and combination—so everything in my beauty routine has to be guaranteed not to break me out.”—Conçetta Ciarlo, beauty shopping writer
If you know Vogue’s beauty shopping writer Conçetta Ciarlo, you know she’s militant about only using noncomedogenic skin-care products—and she’s a loyal follower of celebrity facialist Sofie Pavitt (a.k.a., the acne whisperer). “As it turns out, despite my teenage wishes, some of us do not grow out of acne,” says Ciarlo. “When Sofie Pavitt told me I was doing way too much with my previous skin-care regimen, I stripped things down to the essentials: one AHA for gentle exfoliation, hydrating products, and absolutely no comedogenic ingredients.”
Pavitt advises acne-prone skin types to wash their faces morning and night, as their skin cells shed five times faster than usual. Ciarlo’s go-to is La Roche-Posay’s purifying face wash—there’s a bit of niacinamide in it, but it never leaves skin feeling tight. Next, she uses Pavitt’s mandelic acid serum. “I will never use another liquid exfoliant—this is utter perfection. It’s gentle enough for sensitive skin and has left my pores noticeably clear of impurities,” she says. To finish things off, she uses two K-beauty favorites: Purito’s calming panthenol-infused gel cream, followed by Round Labs’s SPF, both of which have a non-greasy, fast-drying feel.
No matter how late the night, Ciarlo never goes to bed without cleansing—makeup, sunscreen, even the faintest residue has to go. “Sofie Pavitt told me to skip oil cleansers and opt for a micellar water instead, to avoid any oily residue left on my skin,” she explains. Her go-to? Bioderma’s fragrance-free micellar water. Afterward, she follows up with the same morning cleanser, but saves active ingredients for the daytime. “My nightly regimen is all about hydration,” she says. Post-wash, she layers on a richer moisturizer—currently Pavitt Face’s omega-rich cream. “Some find the texture divisive, but I absolutely love the lush gel feel, and it always soothes my rosacea flare-ups.” She adds Dieux’s lightweight eye gel and, when her skin feels especially parched, locks it all in with Clearstem’s acne-safe face oil.
Beauty tools aren’t usually her thing—“I can’t be bothered with the extra step,” she laughs—but one has made the cut: Medicube’s Age-R Booster Pro. “I’m not opposed to gadgets, I just know myself: I won’t keep up with a device unless I have to for product testing,” she says. “What I like about the Age-R Booster Pro is its immediate gratification—it helps my skin care absorb better. When I wake up, my skin is totally glowing—and not in a greasy, oil-slicked way.”
