Last night, we saw the Seahawks take down the Patriots and Bad Bunny deliver a major half time performance on sport’s biggest night of the year. Now, all eyes are on fashion’s Super Bowl equivalent: This Wednesday marks the official start of New York Fashion Week, a six-day lineup of fall/winter 2026 presentations, showroom visits, and after parties that stretch way past school night bed time.
Vogue Editors’ NYFW Must-Haves
Unlike September’s expected heat, February fashion week required a strategic approach to cold-weather dressing. Our editors are battling icy sidewalks, sub-zero temperatures, and long days spent crisscrossing the city from runway shows uptown to presentations downtown. So, preparation is key.
Ahead of the week, we asked our editors what they’re shopping to get fashion month ready. Is it a statement coat that can brave the city chill without sacrificing style? A crisp button-down designed to peek out from beneath layers of cozy cashmere? Or a cold weather essential (maybe some Zicam or vitamin C?) to help against the frigid winter wind.
Below, discover what Vogue editors are eyeing as they prepare to take on New York Fashion Week.
Chloe Malle, head of editorial content
“It s going to be chchchchilly again next week! I am layering up with heattech base layers and a sweater vest, and won t be skimping on Zicam!”
Libby Page, executive director, shopping
“Basics but with texture: A coat but make it pony hair, a classic shirt but make it red, a sleek boot but make it burgundy instead of black. I am experimenting with adding accents to my wardrobe this NYFW. Wish me luck!”
Naomi Elizée, fashion market director
“A little something to brighten up the frigid NYC weather. I always stock up on my Vitamin C during fashion month to keep me going!”
Madeline Fass, fashion market director, shopping
“I am actively searching for a good boot that doesn’t have a pointy kitten heel. I’m slipping and sliding all over the sidewalks and subway platforms—not chic! Otherwise a statement coat, leather gloves, base layer, and face-shielding sunglasses will be in my rotation for the week.”
Talia Abbas, shopping director
“It’s freezing and slippery—two of my least favorite adjectives in a single sentence. A shearling jacket and black boot with a sensible heel are the only things that make sense right now. That and these HeatTech leggings. There’s nothing cute about looking cold.”
Mai Morsch, fashion editor
“Fashion Week is a good excuse to refresh on wardrobe staples I know I’ll wear for the rest of the season. I recently tried on the new Life Jean from Still Here at their Williamsburg store and will likely head back to purchase. It’s a super wearable mid-rise silhouette that pairs well with just about any shoe. I’m also eyeing a new pair of sunglasses from Vincent Boulevard.”
Ciarra Lorren Zatorski, fashion editor
“Comfy coats and even comfier boots (but still fashion, of course!) are at the very top of my list in anticipation of trekking through the mounds of snow pushed alongside the NYC streets!”
Christian Allaire, senior fashion writer
“A fashion week in February is always tough. I’m not someone who plays around when it comes to winter dressing, meaning I will never sacrifice warmth for style. That being said: You can be both cozy and chic. This NYFW, I’ll be relying on big, boxy leather coats (love the Saint Laurent styles), warm quarter-zip sweaters (especially Ralph Lauren ones), and a rotation of my go-to black dress pants. My clunky Prada lug-sole shoes are also the perfect thing to trek around town in. And my Balenciaga City bag for cramming in all my wires, chargers, and notepads.”
Hannah Jackson, fashion writer
“Apologies to those at Milan-Cortina for the stolen valor, but NYFW really is our Olympics, especially when we’re knee-deep in snow. Looking put-together while staying warm is an ongoing struggle—that’s why a sturdy jacket and practical boots are on my wishlist this season. Nour Hammour is my go-to for outerwear that nails both fashion and function, and I think this funnel neck jacket would definitely help me retain heat. All this snow has also helped me realize that my current boots aren’t really cutting it for all my off-roading. I’m confident that I can still feel cute in these Sorel Joan boots without breaking an ankle.”
Laird Borrelli-Presson, senior archive editor
“Caro Editions is a charming Copenhagen brand. I bought a Harris tweed coat at Christmas and I am hoping it’s warm enough to wear it!”
Irene Kim, production and editorial associate
“When I was outerwear shopping before the holidays, I didn’t imagine that we would experience a winter this cold. Unfortunately for me I can’t foresee a NYFW this season where I’m not wearing a hideous (but warm) puffer coat but I’m praying that it becomes slightly warmer than this cold frost we’re experiencing right now so I can give my leather trench and wool jacket a run at the shows.”
Alexandra Hildreth, fashion news writer
“Fashion week dressing is all about getting the most out of your favorite basics, like the perfect pair of Vagabond pointed toe flats or a great pair of Toteme boots. To mix things up, I like to sport a statement jacket, especially since I usually keep my coat on while squeezing in the seats at many of the shows—and no one does it better than Dries. Put it over an elevated Sacai button down and the uniform is ready to go. Bonus points if I remember to pack my chapstick and Zicam!”
Minty Mellon, shopping market editor
“I absolutely loved the statement skirts that dominated the spring/summer runways, so when prepping my NYFW wardrobe this pony hair skirt from Róhe was an instant buy. Of course, I also couldn’t skip out on an excuse to add another pair of sunglasses from Thistles to my rotation.”
Andrea Zendejas, shopping market editor
“Accessories to the rescue. There’s nothing like the right finishing touches to pull a look together. This fashion week all I need is a good pair of boots to take me from shows to appointments, a red cozy scarf (that works just as well wrapped around the neck as tied over the head), a pair of vintage sunglasses for instant polish, and a floral brooch pinned to a coat or jacket. Small details, big impact!”
Kiana Murden, beauty editor, shopping
“As it doesn’t seem like the mounds of (dirty) snow will be going anywhere anytime soon, I don’t think I’ll survive fashion week without a good flat boot. I have been on the hunt for a sleek leather riding boot for months now, so it’s time to kick my search into overdrive. My non-negotiables include traction to avoid slipping on icy walkways, a narrow shaft to pair with dresses or pants, and a sleek sole that’s not too heavy. Again, given the cold, I might grab a new scarf or two.”
