You might recall sporting Patagonia pullovers or The North Face fleece jackets as a child, or perhaps you think of bright-colored and patterned half-zips as the ultimate après-ski garb. But this season, the ’90s-era pullover fleece has made a grand fashion return—with new iterations from both classic heritage brands that have been offering the cold-weather staple for decades to more avant-garde styles plucked straight from the fall/winter 2024 runways. Fleece jackets aren’t the only retro staple to get a modern twist this season–so far, we seen the comeback of ’80s-inspired, round-toe sneakers, bookish argyle sweaters, and heavyweight corduroys, and so much more. You know what they say: what goes around comes around.

Curious about the fleece jacket that put the outerwear style back on the 2024 fashion map? That would be Miu Miu’s fleece down jacket. Both on and off the runway, it was the undeniable standout of the beloved brand’s 2024 holiday collection—and spotted on almost every cool girl during the spring/summer 2025 fashion month who styled it with ladylike midiskirts and Miu Miu’s signature lug-sole boots (per the runway look). Fashion sourcer and Vogue contributor, Gab Waller, told us in her November column that the fleece find was one of her most requested styles of the season–the perfect transitional piece as temperatures only continue to drop. “I’m quite surprised that I do spot a size still available online, I can confidently say that it won’t be there for too much longer,” said Waller. What’s more, we even crowned the Miu Miu fleece as one of the season’s top gifts to give.
But if you’re saving your Miu Miu dollars for something else, you can find cozy yet chic fleeces from cold-weather brands like L.L.Bean and Polo Ralph Lauren, who have never stopped making the style, to new classics from the likes of Sporty Rich, Tory Burch, and even Bode. Whichever one you choose, the fuzzy zip-up is a key layering piece this winter. The only question remains: Do you go quarter, or full zip? We’ll let you decide.
