Vogue Runway’s Most-Read Stories of 2022

Vogue Runways MostRead Stories of 2022

Here at Vogue Runway, we’re aligned on the big stories of the year. The queering of fashion (and we don’t just mean the proliferation of visible jockstraps), the influence of TikTok in just about every corner of the business—Hello, Barbiecore!—and the growing cracks in the creative director system were all topics of interest here at One World Trade.

Vogue Runway’s readers had other ideas in 2022. You were curious about the new wave of Ukrainian designers making a go of their young businesses in a country at war. You kept sending Sergio Hudson’s coming out story to the top of our traffic dashboard months after we published it. And you clicked on anything Rihanna-related, but especially our post about her first-ever IRL Savage x Fenty store. What I take away from our most-read list is that it’s people and personal stories that matter to you, not macro industry trends.

You do, however, make exceptions for micro trends. Our #1 most-read story of the year was our senior fashion news editor Laia Garcia-Furtado’s celebration of what she calls the “non-shoe shoe.” The non-shoe she, for those of you who missed it, is a delicate piece of footwear, more slipper-like than sturdy, and, let’s be honest, not sexy in the slightest, and that’s puzzling, given the popularity of see-through going-out dresses à la Nensi Dojaka, who took the top spot in our the most-viewed shows list of spring 2023.

Laia has a take, of course: “They’re maybe the closest we have gotten to that midcentury vision of the future where everyone is wearing catsuits and form-fitting clothes engineered for better living. I dream of a closet full of little voids to put my feet into, to match the daily feeling of wanting to scream into one.” Read on to see the full list.
