If your social life is feeling a little lackluster lately, you’re certainly not alone. As many of us are now celebrating our one-month mark of hunkered-down existence, we’re finding that a juicy bit of gossip is a rather rare thing to come by. With businesses closed, concerts and weddings postponed, and birthday celebrations restricted to a screen, the talk of the town in my household now concerns the next scheduled delivery of natural wines or how long my dad will go before he finally shaves his beard. The dishiest rumor I’ve heard in weeks was that the local grocery store had run out of Grey Poupon. Luckily, it was fake news.
Of course, there are other ways to drum up a little drama for some semblance of life as it once was. You could cut your bangs, knowing full well that you’ll regret it immediately afterward, just like your mother said. You could catch up on Little Fires Everywhere in time for Wednesday’s season finale and watch Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington do enough meddling and pot-stirring to make up for a lifetime of melodrama. You could even conduct a Would You Rather Instagram poll: Cuomo brothers edition.
Or, you could do all of the above, then put a pot of water on the stove to boil, get dressed in your most extra at-home getup (flamboyant mixed prints, feather trims, and over-the-top costume jewelry are all highly encouraged), and dial up your closest friends to gab about it all in detail over afternoon tea. Why? Why not! If what will bring you joy is playing dress-up with your friends, have at it. We’re happy to assist by providing eight festive at-home outfit ideas. If the gossip isn’t exactly scintillating, the clothes will be.
