Tim Hamilton had the right idea for Fall. After his misjudged first season on the womenswear runway, he s pulled back and decided, as he put it, "to focus on what could be my basics." This New York designer s women s collection is still very new, but he s been at his menswear for a few years longer—and smartly incorporated some elements from that collection here, starting with a pair of tailored blazers with a boxy, away-from-the-body shape that feels right for now. Hamilton also worked some sharp outerwear into the mix, including a strong spiraling sleeveless cape, and another cape in a leather-look-alike PVC that gives a lot of fashion bang for not a lot of bucks. The fundamentals of the line were layer-able, more feminine knits: intarsias and a couple of others embroidered in Swarovski crystals. Knits are often a moneymaker, and it looks like Hamilton has his business priorities in line. The next goal should be to further develop and refine just what exactly is his message.
