What’s the age-appropriate way for a woman who can clearly remember the aughts in all its skinny jean-ness to bring those silhouettes back into her wardrobe? A long, black, skinny wool trouser that flares just below the ankle and holds you in tight, paired with a structured, double-breasted blazer of the same make, according to Tove’s Camille Perry and Holly Wright.
Over the last six years, the pair have amassed a cult following of fashionable Londoners, many of whom largely remember the aughts, because they combine sympathetic tailoring with subtle revelations of skin. For instance ruched waists—lifesavers for anyone who has experienced motherhood—are a signature of the brand. They were all over this collection too, on strapless gowns, peplum tops, and even a see-through dress.
Perry and Wright decided to forgo a show this season to focus on their global business, particularly the US and Middle Eastern markets. The fall collection was a continuation of the one they showed in September—still minimal and based on a warm palette but a little sexier and refreshed.
The slit waistband we saw in September was back, only this time on a silk pencil skirt that stopped just above the knee. So were the backless buttons, on cashmere jumpers instead of silk shirts. The standout hue was a golden egg yolk yellow that took over a backless gown, a cropped wool jumper, and a silk skirt with a hammered finish. When the collection hits stores next fall, plenty of customers will be reaching for those long, black, skinny, tiny flares.
