2024 Was the Year of Leveled-Up Maternity Style

It was a big year for babies. On the red carpet and out on the streets, their elevated personal style proved that maternity dressing can be comfort-oriented, while still looking modern and individualistic.

Let’s face it: Maternity dressing gets a bad rap for being focused solely on practicality. And while that may be true—one does need clothes that ebb and flow with a growing baby bump—it does not mean one should sacrifice their own taste in the process. In 2024, stylish stars made the case for pieces that perform double duty. Take Megan Fox, who stepped out wearing a sheer maxi dress; it pointed to one of the largest trends of the year (naked dressing) while still being extremely comfortable (though we re not sure about the sky-high heels). Ditto for Hailey Bieber in her black lace catsuit, paired with a boxy leather jacket—it’s basically a comfy leotard, but high-fashion.

At the premiere of Bread Roses, Jennifer Lawrence slipped into a black archival Christian Lacroix number, and its billowy silhouette lent itself perfectly to draping over her bump. At the premiere of Horizon, Maya Erskine donned a white skirt and an unbuttoned cardigan that proudly displayed her bump—a styling move that Rihanna made her signature when she was expecting last year.
