The Runway Looks We Want to See During the 2025 Awards Season

It’s only been a day since Oscar nominations were announced, but we’re already dreaming up the looks we want to see on Hollywood’s biggest night.

The 2024-2025 awards season kicked off with the Governors and the Gothams at the end of last year, and the Golden Globes ushered us into 2025. But devastating wildfires in Los Angeles quickly derailed the remainder of the schedule, with voting, nominations, and awards shows taking a pause. The Grammys announced that they would go on as planned on February 2, but with the additional plan to raise funds for wildfire relief.

The sheer devastation in Los Angeles will undoubtedly color the rest of the season, and likely influence the fashion too. It’s possible that the looks will lean more conservative and eschew sparkle and embellishment for sleek, timeless fashion. (That said, we are still expecting Alessandro Michele’s Valentino to make a splash on the carpet.)

The actors making the rounds this season—Mikey Madison, Demi Moore, Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Zoe Saldaña—all know how to own the red carpet. That said, we’re so dedicated to awards show fashion that we decided to pull some options ourselves. Consider some of the smaller designers like Christopher John Rogers, whose voluminous dresses make for a true showstopper, or the avant-garde Hodakova, who just took home the LVMH Prize. But we’re realists here, and we know that nominees tend to align with major fashion houses for marquee events. We love the sumptuous butter yellow Prada dress from the lauded spring 2025 collection, as well as the pink frayed georgette dress with silver embellishments from Seán McGirr’s Alexander McQueen.

The couture spring 2025 shows also proved fertile ground for awards season fashion. Red carpet favorites like Armani Privé and Schiaparelli both produced breathtaking gowns that we’re sure to see on the carpet soon. Meanwhile, newer faces in the couture world also impressed: Ludovic de Saint Sernin (a growing red carpet presence himself) stepped into Jean Paul Gaultier’s guest designer role this season, while Michele tried out couture for the first time under Valentino. Beyond couture, Peter Copping’s debut at Lanvin also offered some real contenders.
