Last Night, Chanel Hosted a Cocktail Party for its Trop Chic Brand Ambassador Caroline de Maigret

Yesterday evening at Chanel’s tweed-filled 57th Street boutique, all eyes were on Caroline de Maigret. The Parisian creative’s long history with Chanel began on the runway—De Maigret has walked countless shows at the Grand Palais beginning with a spring 2000 collection helmed by the late Karl Lagerfeld—and now, she’s working her magic behind the camera, directing videos for the house. Their continued collaboration is one worth celebrating and so that’s exactly what Chanel did last night.

Escaping the bitter January cold, guests including Indre Rockefeller, Nell Diamond, Gucci Westman, Colby Mugrabi, Michael Avedon, and Leigh Lezark, as well as Vogue’s Mark Holgate, Nicole Phelps, Rickie De Sole, and Virginia Smith, were welcomed with a glass of bubbly and hors d’oeuvres. The floors of the Peter Marino-designed boutique gradually filled with well-dressed bodies, laughter, recaps of holiday travel both far and near, and congratulatory remarks to the guest of honor.

Beyond her lengthy list of talents (writing, directing, music producing), De Maigret is perhaps known most for fueling the French Girl Style craze. She even broke down her je ne sais quoi philosophies in a much-read book How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are. Of course, she dressed the part last night in a buttoned-up suit, complete with gold hoops and a mixed metal bag, channeling confidence with a timeless edge.

In head-to-toe Chanel, De Maigret floated through the boutique greeting every guest and writing personalized notes on the hardcover copies of her newest book, Older, but Better, but Older, the evening’s take-home. Earlier in the day, the publication was the subject of a conversation between the author and Vogue’s Hamish Bowles—the audience made up of some of De Maigret s biggest fans. “The key to not aging and to my career is to always be aware and open to learning,” she explained, “I have no fear of failure.”

So, how does she do it all? “I have a tendency to say yes; I’m a “yes” person and I try to push myself into adventures,” De Maigret explained. “I’ll rest when I die!”
