What would you take to Mars? It was the question that H&M’s Linda Wikell, Moa Bartling, and Ann-Sofie Johansson pondered together earlier this year. “We came up with all sorts of answers. Grandma’s jewelry, coats, photos,” Wikell told Vogue. “But, we also thought of memories. And we came up with flowers. Of course, if you’re living on Mars where there are no flowers, it would be nice to have.” And thus, to celebrate H&M Studio’s latest Autumn collection, the scene felt like the Big Bang in bloom.
While dinner parties in outer space are still in the works, H&M figured that the West Village’s King Restaurant would do for now to celebrate the collection. Last Thursday evening, bold topiaries adorned with flowers boasting fine bright pigments of yellows, pinks, and blues welcomed a fashionable group of editors, models, and even a popstar into the celebratory dinner. Laura Harrier and Chase Sui Wonders perched themselves against the manicured foliage while cameras flashed around them. Others, cocktail in hand, soaked in the collection and its bright colors, bold prints, and floral dresses. All the while, Georgia and Joel Palmer—the statuesque stars of the campaign—were seen mingling with guests while donning pieces of the collection.
After being immersed into the new world of H&M Studio, guests made their way to the main dining room, where three elongated tables were dressed in alignment with the collection. Slim candles were wedged in between miniature topiaries with sprouting vegetation and flowers served as the centerpiece.
Charli XCX, alongside her stylist Chris Horan and Manager Sam Pringle, waxed poetic about one another. “Our dynamic is as if we are a family. We’ve known each other for so long, and I think that’s why we work well together. We vacation together, we have fun together.” the popstar said to Vogue and those around. “But, that’s sort of like us, too!” Johansson excitedly said in reply.
Another topic of conversation? Which piece of the collection they’d take with them to space. But as several pointed out, it wasn’t so much what they should pack, but when!
