Closed Celebrated its First U.S. Store Opening With an Intimate Dinner in Los Angeles

Margot’s terrace was transformed into a summer paradise. Tabletops boasted olive branches, feathery grasses, and striped linens, an homage to summer in L.A. and Europe. As the sun set and guests found their seats, Aurora James, whose birthday happened to be the same evening, stood and said a few words to kick off the dinner on behalf of herself and Calderone. “Not only is Closed leading the way with their innovative denim practices, but they’re quietly educating others, like myself, to make more sustainable and conscious choices in our home,” James read on behalf of Calderone. Closed’s co-chief executive Til Nadler stood to speak, too; “this is exactly the setting that my lawyer friends back in Hamburg think is the reason I got into fashion— hosting a dinner with beautiful people in L.A. And they are right.” House-made focaccia and roasted eggplant dip were passed as Nadler finished his speech, “Enjoy this evening. Spread the news of the best denim in the world being in town.”

Closed’s choice to open in L.A. as opposed to New York or elsewhere in the states felt like a natural fit to Nadler. “L.A. is a love affair for the Closed brand,” he explained. “I’m so happy to have opened here. I feel the audience, and customer base is so coherent here.” As the evening drew to a close and guests finished their Tiramisus, numbers were exchanged to plan summer hangouts between summer travels. Then, the party made their way out into the perfectly crisp Angelean night, admiring the new Closed storefront as they strolled past its endemic sunshine yellow decor on their way home.
