Geraldine Viswanathan Picked a Vintage Vivienne Westwood Dress for the Drive-Away Dolls Premiere
These days, when it comes to press junkets and red carpets, method dressing is almost de rigueur. Think Margot Robbie s endless arsenal of Barbie-centric outfits, or Jenna Ortega s sullen Wednesday wardrobe. But for the Drive-Away Dolls premiere, Geraldine Viswanathan leaned away from the literal, hoping instead to capture the spirit of the film in her outfit. “I try to think about the energy of the movie,” she says. “For Drive-Away Dolls, it’s such a pulpy, silly, and fun caper comedy so I felt I could have fun with the fashion on the press tour and specifically with the premiere look. This look just felt appropriate: fun, bright, and a little playful.”
When Viswanathan s stylist, Jared Ellner, showed her the dress, neither were sure that it would suit her. “I tried it on, and we were both kind of shook," she says. "It fit so perfectly, and the color was so different than anything I’ve ever worn. I felt confident in it!” The satisfaction was about more than meets the eye. “Vivienne Westwood is one of my favorite designers of all time, so to wear one of her designs is such an honor and a dream.”
The 28-year-old Australian actor has made a name for herself starring in Miracle Workers and BoJack Horseman, and will soon join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Thunderbolts. But for now, she s staying present and looking forward to the Drive-Away Dolls hitting theaters. “I have been looking forward to being able to watch the movie in a theater with people. I think that’s how the movie is supposed be watched—especially since it’s a comedy,” she says. “Our release got pushed back because of the strike so it’s been a long time coming. I can’t wait to see everyone and celebrate our movie, laugh together in a theater, and eat popcorn.”
