Jessica Alba, Bella Hadid, and Huma Abedin Were Honored at The 2022 Golden Heart Awards

Gold and glistening adornments could be found throughout The Glasshouse last night overlooking Manhattan’s West Side; an appropriate homage to the evening’s occasion, the annual Golden Heart Awards benefitting God’s Love We Deliver, but none seemed to turn more heads than the gilded wardrobe and accessories selected by all four of the evening’s honorees, Huma Abedin, Karen Pearl, Bella Hadid, and Jessica Alba.
It came as no surprise that they were all sporting Michael Kors Collection, a presenting partner of the evening and a 30-year veteran of the organization which, since its inception in 1985, has delivered over 30 million homemade nutritious meals across all boroughs of New York City to individuals living with severe illness. It was an auspicious milestone for Kors, whose name can be found on the God’s Love We Deliver SoHo headquarters.
“I’ve been working with God’s Love for over 30 years, and in that time, I’ve had the pleasure of watching them grow from a small kitchen on the Upper West Side to a major operation in SoHo, delivering meals to people in need across the five boroughs and beyond. It’s truly amazing when you think about how this all started—with one woman, delivering one meal to someone too sick to leave the house. It’s a special kind of New York success story,” Kors tells Vogue.
Partygoers were welcomed with a cocktail hour orchestrated by The Carlyle Hotel’s Bemelmans Bar, which had transported every element of their signature experience—the glassware, garnishes, red barkeep uniforms, and entertainment provided by Earl Rose and his jazz trio—all the way from the iconic Upper East Side hideaway. With dirty martinis and Manhattans in hand, master of ceremonies Billy Porter, also wearing a Michael Kors Collection confection lined with black sequins, welcomed guests to their seats. “A drink at The Carlyle costs about the same as one of these tables tonight,” he quipped as he read from an adjacent prompter. “No shade to The Carlyle, though; I didn’t write this script.”
The entertainment continued with a performance from Lea Michele, who wowed guests with a rendition of “People” from her starring role as Fanny Brice in Funny Girl and a live auction led by Harry Santa-Olalla. Included on the auction block was a dinner party orchestrated by Chef Melba Wilson, Alan Cumming, and Neil Patrick Harris that sold for a whopping $110,000—which ended up getting matched.
There was a slew of appearances by many more bold-faced names; they included Frieda Pinto introducing honoree Huma Abedin, who Pinto is slated to portray in the television adaption of Abedin’s memoir, Both/And. “In a world that does feel so divided, sometimes the essence of what is most important gets lost in all of the partisanship and performances, and that’s not what this movement is about,” Abedin told guests, accepting her award for outstanding leadership amid her decade-long support for the organization. “For 37 years, God’s Love has consistently provided care that has nothing to do with who you are, what you believe in, or where you come from. It is simply focused on how to make one neighbor, one community, one city’s life better every day, and that is the true essence of effective leadership and public service.”
Also being awarded was Bella Hadid, who was joined by confidantes Olivia Perez and Paloma Elsesser, boyfriend Marc Kallman, and mother Yolanda Hadid, who lent her camel overcoat to the chilly supermodel. “I know for a fact that my mom’s spaghetti and meatballs, hand-delivered by her when I’m feeling debilitated after working months away from home, is sometimes far better than any antidepressant I’ve ever tried,” Hadid mused to guests, pausing for laughter and applause, as she accepted her award for mental health advocacy. “The way God’s Love We Deliver works so hard to make these moments for others is so incredibly special; each simple, each impactful on a regular basis, delivering more than 11,000 meals daily is beyond the word inspiring; it just makes me want to get up and do something.”
