Inside Harriet Verney’s London Flat
Photographed by Harry Carr2/11“In the main living area of the flat, we painted the concrete floors the same color they use in most car parks in the city, since it’s hard-wearing. Tiger’s dad, Daniel, gave us the couch, as well as the blue chair from the ’70s, which now belongs to our cat, Bat, and acts as his cat scratcher. Her dad also made these lights for us. They’re milky glass on Perspex and we like to call them ‘the Chadwick balls.’ We wanted a small rug on the floor, and I found this one at a flea market. It’s made of wool from 12 different kinds of sheep, which sounds nasty, but I’m sure the sheep didn’t mind because it turned out so beautifully.”

“We had these very funny builders, and they asked what kind of a backsplash we wanted in the kitchen. I was so exhausted at that point, which was about day seven of painting, that I just jokingly said, ‘A dick!’ They actually spent a whole day drawing different shapes, making sure it was right. Now I look at it every day, and I’m like, ‘Oh, God, I’m so immature,’ but it’s funny.”
