Jennifer Lopez’s 17 Best Versace Looks

Today, at the Versace Spring 2020 show in Milan, Jennifer Lopez walked the runway wearing a plunging green dress, purposefully resembling the green-dress-seen-around-the-world that she wore to the 2000 Grammy Awards. Lopez making a cameo on the Versace runway feels a long time coming: After all, Donatella Versace and Lopez have had a friendship that has lasted over 20 years. According to an interview with Vogue in 2018, prior to her accepting the MTV/VMA Vanguard Award (to which she wore Versace, naturally), the Bronx-born Lopez met Ms. Versace in 1999 after attending her first Met Gala with her former boyfriend rapper Sean Combs. The two had an emotional connection; it was less than two years after Versace’s brother Gianni was murdered. “My heart went out to her [Donatella]. I just kept touching her and holding her hand,” Lopez said. “She felt so fragile at the time. And she remembered that and we kind of bonded after that. She was so kind and so sweet to me, and we always kept in touch. She was always sending me dresses for whatever I needed. It was a natural, organic relationship that wasn’t forced. It is a friendship that goes back many years.”
Since their first meeting, Lopez has regularly donned Versace’s high-octane, glitzy garb both on the red carpet and onstage—almost too many times to count. In 2016, she wore eight different gem-slathered custom Versace looks to open her residency in Las Vegas. In 2015, she attended the Met Gala hand in hand with Versace in a ruby red off-the-shoulder dress. Four years later, Lopez again attended the Met Gala in Versace, this time in a leg-revealing halter gown with matching headgear. And this past July, a fresh-faced Lopez celebrated her 50th birthday in a strappy custom-made gold Versace dress. But the most monumental moment will always be Lopez wearing that aforementioned green Versace dress from the Spring 2000 collection—during the early days of the internet, the dress created such a buzz that it spawned the creation of Google Images. (There is even an entire Wikipedia page dedicated to it.)

Now, in the age of social media, the Versace and Lopez union also makes for a stellar double-tap Instagram moment. Last summer, Lopez wore Versace’s denim-boot pants sans actual pants, which has since become a much memed-about ensemble. More recently, after performing at a concert in Moscow in early August, Lopez stepped out holding a bedazzled extra-large tumbler cup that she matched to none other than a snug Versace robe. What could be more glamorous than that? It seems that even 20 years later, nobody can wear Versace like J.Lo.
