Jonathan Simkhai Hosted a NYFW Soirée in the Sky

Saturday night, Jonathan Simkhai celebrated his spring 2022 collection overlooking New York City’s sparkling skyline. Major landmarks like the Empire State Building and World Trade Center beamed blue in honor of the 20th anniversary of 9/11, which was observed with a remembrance ceremony at Ground Zero Memorial amongst many other gatherings throughout the city.
Commemorating the strength and resilience of NYC on this monumental day was not lost on Simkhai, who chose a sprawling view of Manhattan as the backdrop for his runway show. Following the debut, Simkhai gathered friends and fashion folk for an intimate dinner on the rooftop of Ian Schrager’s Public Hotel.
“Today is such a special day,” Simkhai smiled, “I’m so honored to be back in New York celebrating the city that started my career with the people who’ve supported me along the way.”
Model and DJ Ruby Aldrige welcomed guests with upbeat tunes, which set the tone for the vibey evening in the stars. Artists, art lovers, and actors like Euphoria’s Barbie Ferreira, Karen Elson, Laverne Cox, Gossip Girl’s Savannah Smith, Krysta Rodriguez, Kathryn Gallagher, the New Museum’s Isolde Brielmaier, Casey Fremont, Genevieve Angelson, and Nausheen Shah took in the breathtaking sights while enjoying a glass or two of rosé.
Carefully placed throughout the clusters of candlelit tables, artist Justin Teodoro created personalized “I <3 NY” t-shirt illustrations memorializing the unforgettable day for every guest.
The dinner kicked off with a baby kale caesar salad followed by a parmesan orecchiette pasta and a filet mignon saltado prepared with Vidalia onions and ripe tomatoes. For dessert, homemade churros decorated in a salted chocolate sauce were served while guests mingled from table to table, eager to chat about the week’s festivities. And since it was a Saturday night, after all, new friends and old took to their feet dancing in the city’s lights to DJ Kitty Cash’s throwback beats while enjoying specialty Casamigos cocktails. Once the clock struck midnight, guests tricked out to the streets headed for home or to the next adventure of the night.
