Inside the Opening of Kirna Zabête’s Brand New Madison Avenue Outpost

In 1999, a store called Kirna Zabête opened in Soho, and immediately, the name became synonymous with cutting-edge retail. What has changed in the decade-plus since? Where it calls home—still Soho but East Hampton, Bryn Mawr, Palm Beach, and the Upper East Side as of this week.
Last night, Kirna Zabête celebrated the opening of its new Madison Avenue outpost with a dinner that brought together some of the city’s most prominent fashion figures. Hosted by the Kirna Zabête founder, Beth Buccini, the intimate celebration was a love letter to New York and a perfect way to kick off New York Fashion Week.
In attendance was a mix of designers (carried at Kirna Zabête, of course), including Carolina Herrera’s Wes Gordon, Adam Lippes, Sally LaPointe, Alejandra Alonso Rojas, and Rosie Assoulin. The guests were also treated to a tour of the store, which features a beautiful pink marble floor, Venetian plaster walls, and red lacquered chandeliers.
Of the design, Buccini tells Vogue she wanted the new Madison store to feel like a chic friend’s home—albeit one with an incredible closet. To achieve this, she worked with interior designer Steven Gambrel, who used a mix of residential and fashion elements to create a space that feels warm and inviting.
At the dinner, which was located on the retail floor, was a beautifully set table with Misette plates, Dear Annabelle place cards, and Paul Arnhold’s (also in attendance) vases filled with fresh anemones. They enjoyed a delicious meal, which was paired with Rosie Assoulin’s cult-favored natural wine.
According to Buccini, the night was such a success that it just may have inspired a monthly supper club at the store. “I received so many texts this morning from people who were walking by last night and saw our event and now want to host dinners inside the store!” Buccini explained, “Who knows—maybe this will be a thing now!” Suffice it to say; the night piqued the interest of passersby and shoppers alike.
