Leandra Medine on Her Denim Style Icons—And Her New Re/Done Collab

The Man Repeller (alias Leandra Medine) has one of the most covetable denim collections around. Whether in light wash or the deepest indigos, they’re a staple of both her front row and everyday style, as she slips easily from psychedelic Valentino boots to Superga kicks to heels and back again. Now the boldface blogger has teamed up with Re/Done; she follows in the footsteps of model Elsa Hosk with a namesake denim silhouette of her own.
Debuting today, the Leandra was born of a hyper-specific hole in her wardrobe . . . literally. “I spent nine months,” Medine tells Vogue.com, “aggressively looking for a pair of high-waist, cropped but somewhat flared vintage Levi’s to emulate a pair I’d found in a vintage store but irreparably ripped through the crotch. So when the opportunity to work with Re/Done presented itself, it seemed like an ideal time to both accommodate my own pursuit, but also hopefully help other like-minded jean-wearers.”

“Jason London wore this one pair of white, wide-leg jeans through the course of almost the entire movie, and I was straight-up distracted every time he was in a scene because I was trying to figure out where the damn sailor pants were from. They featured two front pockets, flared out like a subtle A-line skirt and hugged his non-child-bearing hips. They were definitely not stretch.”

“This is an obvious one, but those who are considered iconic often are. Jane Birkin is, in my opinion, still the reason denim has become the fabric of casual but stylish dressing. She had a way about her straw basket and boot-cut jeans and sliver of waist showing that made the whole thing feel so achievable.”
