On a beautiful late-summer evening (and day one of New York Fashion Week) MatchesFashion.com and Tabitha Simmons hosted an intimate fashion crowd at Saint Theo’s, a new coastal-Italian hot spot in Manhattan’s West Village. Upon arrival, guests sipped on mezcal margaritas and wine served from an incredible terrazzo bar. The Italian influences of the space were hard not to notice, from the Murano-glass light fixtures to the vintage Pirelli calendars that decorated the walls.
Elizabeth von der Goltz, MatchesFashion.com’s chief commercial officer, and Tabitha Simmons—creative director at Tanner Krolle, stylist, shoe designer, and Vogue contributor—began the evening with a toast, celebrating the return of NYFW and their partnership. Tanner Krolle’s fall-winter 2021 collection launched on MatchesFashion.com and is available to shop now. In her appointment at the storied leather-goods house, Simmons is offering a refreshing take on the line by reimagining its exquisitely crafted heritage handbags for a more modern audience. Case in point: the Annabel 18 box bag, inspired by the original style sported by Princess Diana.
Guests who gathered for the intimate affair included Charli XCX, Karen Elson, Tommy Dorfman, Coco Gordon Moore, Chloe Wise, Quannah Chasinghorse, Richie Shazam, Katerina Tanenbaum, Beverly Nguyen, and Vogue’s Chioma Nnadi, Rickie De Sole, Mark Holgate, Hamish Bowles, and Lynn Yaeger, among others.
The evening flowed seamlessly through a four-course menu, starting with delightful cichetti, which included delectable polpette (breaded beef meatballs) and crudités with lemon aioli and a green chili hot sauce. This was all followed by crisp arugula-and-romaine salads topped with burrata and garlic croutons. However, it was chef Ashley Rath’s ricotta gomiti pasta with hot Calabrian chili oil and spaghetti with cherry tomatoes that stood out as crowd-pleasers. As the clock tipped toward midnight, guests were served a sweet yet tart dessert of strawberries and crème fraîche topped with balsamic vinegar and black pepper, with a side of espresso. It was just the right kind of evening to kick off the long-awaited return of New York Fashion Week.
